Absences
Parents and guardians can report student absence or lateness through SchoolPass, an attendance system smartphone application. Parents/guardians without smartphone access can contact the office through the SchoolPass website or by sending an email to [email protected]. If an absence is prearranged, please complete the Request for Prearranged Absence form and submit this to the office. Behavior In kindergarten, we utilize a system of restorative discipline. If a class rule is broken or a relationship is violated, a warning will be given. If another behavioral problem occurs, the child will participate in a meeting with Mrs. Holder and/or the involved classmate(s) to discuss what happened, who was affected, and what can be done to make things right. The goals of restorative discipline are for students to take responsibility for their actions, be accountable, and take appropriate action to restore relationships. In the case of severe discipline problems, parents or guardians will receive an email or phone call from Mrs. Holder or Dr. Whitehead. Birthdays We love celebrating birthdays in kindergarten! Your child's birthday will be recognized in class with special surprises from Mrs. Holder and Dr. Whitehead. Additionally, we will celebrate each birthday with an extra recess or brain break. Please note: In accordance with our Health and Safety Plan, only non-food items (pencils, erasers, stickers, small toys, etc.) can be dispersed in class. Folders & Materials Your child should return his or her Take Home folder to school daily, as this is our primary method of home and school communication. Homework assignments, notes for Mrs. Holder, the school nurse, or the main office, and other important documents will be transported in these provided folders. Your child must also bring his or her supply box with all school supplies to school each day. Unfortunately, school supply boxes cannot be kept in the classroom. |
Arrival & Dismissal
Kindergarten students will enter and exit the building through our exterior classroom door, facing the playground. If your child's dismissal procedure changes for any reason, please send a note to notify me of the details and date(s) of this change. AM Kindergarten: 8:35-11:30 PM Kindergarten: 12:50-3:30 Homework Homework is meant as a reinforcement of skills taught in school. In kindergarten, homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. There will be a worksheet or a practice assignment each night. Homework assignments will be sent home in your child's Take Home folder. These assignments will also be noted on our weekly newsletter. While students will need your help with the directions, the homework itself should be completed by your child. Homework should take approximately 10 minutes. Your child should write his or her first and last name on each written assignment.
